Sailing 2021

It is with some real sadness that another great sailing season has come to an end. It was an awesome summer and thanks to Sherri Taylor, here are a few memories.

A Summer at SHYC

While active throughout the year, SHYC really comes alive in the summer, with lots of activities, including racing, BBQs, live music and just an opportunity to relax. A perfect time to sit on your boat with your favourite beverage… a warm summer breeze… a wonderful view… palm trees gently swaying on the shoreline….. well...…ok...... maybe not palm trees...… but Shelburne is still a great place to just relax.

Island Park

Located in Shelburne Harbour directly across from the Town of Shelburne, Island Park is indeed a gem. The parks location makes a for great stroll, or a picnic… and the view is fantastic.

Sailing Academy and Family Watersport Centre

We recently moved into the Muir Cox building on the Shelburne waterfront and renovated it to house our sailing academy and family watersport centre. This new facility will not only provide a venue for young families to enjoy the club, but will also position us to play host to some significant sailing events. The NSYA Coaches Conference and the Canadian Albacore Nationals are just a couple of examples.

Canadian Albacore Nationals -2013

Shelburne Harbour Yacht Club hosted the 2013 Canadian Albacore Nationals during the weekend of July 26th- 28th. You can read about it on the Canadian Albacore tab of our site.

2016 Awards Night

The 2016 Awards Dinner saw one of the biggest turnouts in recent history. This was due, in large part, by the participants from our Sailing Academy.

Founders Days 2012

The weather was absolutely beautiful for the annual Founders Days Regatta, with fourteen sailboats taking part. Thursday evening saw everyone enjoying cheese burgers from the grill. They later danced to Clark Blanchard, after watching the mock ship attack in Shelburne Harbour. Friday evening everyone thoroughly enjoyed scallop burgers prepared by the ladies in the galley, samples of smoked salmon donated by Cooke’s Aquaculture, samples of Jost wine donated by Jost, dancing to “Heavy Water” and the magnificent display of fireworks across the harbour. On Saturday after race #3 the crew of “Hard Ei8ht” barbecued fresh haddock and potatoes and corn on the cob while enjoying music by Shelley MacIntosh and Natalie Lynn and her band. Saturday night everyone danced to “Time Machine”. Sunday morning, ladies were in the galley cooking up a delicious breakfast and in the afternoon after the final race, Commodore Sherri Taylor handed out the trophies to the winners. Many thanks to the many volunteers, including the skippers, who made this a fantastic weekend of great fun and food! Thanks to Harry O’Connor, Peggy Spurr, Jennifer Davis and John Brown for being loyal Race Starters.

2014 Southern Belles

A beautiful spring day brought out our beautiful Southern Belles, in all their fine hats. This wonderful effort was very well appreciated by all the members and topped off a great evening.
